And I’m fourteen, but that’s beside the point.
Okies. A friend from our high school’s CC team invited me and the other gals over for a movie night after a tough meet to kinda relax and stuff. We watched a little Family Guy and then turned to the next movie.
Which was : dun-da-da-DUUUUN… Taking Lives, unrated director’s cut on DVD. WOW. I was completely won over. I got sucked into teh TV to the point where I’d shout out “NO!” and stuff like that at crucial moments and the girls would turn around and go “SHHHH!” Normally I don’t get sucked in, but that’s the mark of a wonderful movie.
But you may not want to see this version if you have a weak stomach because, thanks to Martin, there’s…a lot of gore. And then a buncha sex in this version, but we fast-forwarded thru that.
All the twists and turns were beautifully unplanned and just… WOW. If you haven’t seen it, you are so missing out.
GO BUY THIS MOVIE NOW. Unless of course, you don’t like gore or sex, then maybe get the regular version.

Sitting in the theater, I found myself really hating this movie. But upon leaving, I realized that it wasn’t exactly awful–it was just completely recycled. Nothing in the movie is new, and so nothing in the movie feels like a good justification for having filmed it.
All of the plot twists are easily predictable if you’ve seen at least one suspense-thriller before in your life. When Angelina Jolie’s character spends her time trying to figure out who the mysterious killer is, you just feel like shouting at her because the mystery is completely obvious. There are a few jolty moments that offer a good shock, but nothing in the movie has any lasting value. The characters are all forgettable and the plot was rendered by a cookie-cutter. The dialogue is all bland and predictable, with one-liners that were clearly written without much thought involved.
But, on the plus side, the movie does nothing horribly wrong. If you have not seen many thriller-suspense movies before, then you will likely find much of this movie to be scary, thrilling, and riveting. If you are just looking for a way to kill an hour and a half of time, then there are much worse ways to spend your evening.
This is really a three-star mystery movie, but because the filmmakers easily could have made it into something more fresh–yet decided not to–I deduct one star.
LANGUAGE CONTENT – Plenty. Either in the subtitles or in the spoken English, there’s all the classic four-letter words thrown out casually.
VIOLENT CONTENT – While there aren’t many instances of on-screen violence, there is a lot of grotesque imagery in the movie. There are dozens of photographs of corpses with bludgeoned faces and there is an unsettling scene in a morgue. On more than one occasion, the characters stumble onto a bloody corpse. The final scene of the movie has most of the actual violence in it.
SEXUAL CONTENT AND NUDITY – There is a (semi-pointless) sex scene toward the later half of the movie. If you are easily offended by sex scenes, don’t despair–there’s plenty of warning time to see it coming, so you’ll easily have the chance to avert your eyes.

I was very caught up in this movie from the first incredible scenes to the final twist. I have read the other reviews and maybe I’m biased because I LOVE Angelina Jolie but I thought this was a great movie. I highly recommend it. The violence, sex, and little bit of nudity all added to this movie. I did not have the plot figured out right away and was highly impressed with how this movie kept my attention all the way through.
